Beauty Vitamins, Do They Work?
Aging gracefully sounds lovely in theory, but the reality is that most women want their firm skin, thick hair, and radiant glow to stick around for as long as possible. I’m all for embracing my age, but if there are ways to support my body and skin from the inside out, I’m open to exploring them. That’s where beauty supplements come in. Collagen powders, resveratrol capsules, hyaluronic acid tablets... There are so many trending products promising youthful skin, stronger hair, more energy, a flatter stomach, etc. But do they work, or are they just another example of clever marketing?
With all the social media buzz around these so-called miracle supplements, my curiosity finally got the best of me. I decided to test out a variety of the most popular and affordable options for 60 days to see what, if anything, would make a noticeable difference in my 65-year-old skin. My expectations were skeptical as I stayed optimistic, hoping for more hydrated skin, fuller hair, better sleep, more energy, and a less bloated belly. I was pleased that some of my post-60-day results surprised me in a good way!
ARE TRENDING ANTI-AGING SUPPLEMENTS FACT OR FICTION?
If you’ve spent any time scrolling social media, you’ve probably seen influencers raving about their morning collagen smoothies, must-have biotin gummies for hair growth, hyaluronic acid and omega-3 fish oils for glowing skin, creatine for muscle tone, and of course, my personal “fingers-crossed” favorite—digestive enzymes for that flatter belly we 60+ women all desperately hope for.
But do we really need to add all of these to our daily routine? Before jumping on the supplement bandwagon, I wanted to make sure they were safe. While no pill or powder is a magic fix, some can support your beauty and wellness goals. Always check with your doctor before adding anything new, especially if you're managing health conditions or medications. That said, here’s what I tried—✅ marks the supplements that gave me noticeable results and earned a spot in my ongoing wellness routine.
1. ✅COLLAGEN PEPTIDES Collagen is the protein responsible for keeping our skin firm and bouncy. As we age, collagen production slows down, leading to wrinkles and sagging. Collagen peptides may help improve skin elasticity, hydration and reduce fine lines over time. Clinical studies support improved skin moisture and elasticity. Look for types I and III collagen for skin and joint benefits. Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder - https://amzn.to/3GF7lTz
2. RESVERATROL is the anti-aging powerhouse antioxidant found in red wine (yes, please!), that may support skin health and fight signs of aging. While you'd need to drink gallons of wine to get enough (obviously not recommended!), resveratrol supplements can help protect skin and fight premature aging and may have anti-inflammatory effects. 3.✅ OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS This glow booster, found in fish oil and flaxseed, omega-3 fatty acids, keeps the skin barrier strong and reduces inflammation. Omega-3s are excellent for supporting skin health, hydration, and overall glow. Triple Strength Omega 3 Fish Oil - 180 Capsules - 2400mg High Potency - https://amzn.to/4m99VSj
4. SUPER RETINOL C helps boost collagen, brighten skin, and reduce visible signs of aging. Scientific studies show that both retinol and vitamin C can support collagen stimulation and improve pigment. Retinol, C blend for Skin Radiance and Tone - https://amzn.to/431QLFc
5. DIGESTIVE ENZYMES are often dubbed ‘The Flat Stomach Savior’ and may support nutrient absorption and improve gut-related skin issues. Added potential benefits of having a debloated belly are feeling calm due to the connection between gut and brain health. 6. BIOTIN is the hair and nail superhero constantly hyped for hair growth and stronger nails. Unless you're deficient, you may not notice much of a difference in your hair and nails. I saw some positive improvements in my nails. If you're dealing with nail brittleness, it may be worth trying. 7. ✅MINOXIDIL Topical minoxidil is clinically proven to promote hair regrowth in men and women. With consistent use, Scientific evidence supports the effectiveness of treating mild hair thinning. I’ve noticed less fallout and expect to see more improvement at the 6-month point. 5% Extra Strength Minoxidil Treatment Serum with Rosemary for Faster, Stronger & Thicker Hair Growth - 60ML Each - https://amzn.to/3EQUihu
8. ✅NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) NAD+ is essential for cellular energy and repair, but decreases with age. 9. ✅HYALURONIC ACID (Oral) We love it in skincare, but ingesting hyaluronic acid can also increase skin hydration and smoothness from within. I saw a noticeable improvement in my skin’s ability to maintain hydration with fewer topical products. 10. ✅CREATINE is not just for bodybuilders! Creatine has been shown to improve skin cell energy, reduce wrinkles, and even increase skin firmness and muscle tone. I take 3g daily in my smoothie and will keep consuming this as part of my healthy aging journey. Nutricost Creatine Monohydrate Powder for Women, Micronized, Unflavored - https://amzn.to/4iQ6M6O
FINAL THOUGHTS: ARE BEAUTY SUPPLEMENTS WORTH ADDING TO YOUR ANTI-AGING BEAUTY ROUTINE?
There’s no magic pill or potion that will instantly turn back the clock and restore our youthful glow. That said, some supplements—like collagen peptides, omega-3s, hyaluronic acid, and even minoxidil—do have science to support their benefits, and I’ve found them worth including in my routine. Others, like biotin, may only help if you’re actually deficient. At the end of the day, we all wish for a quick fix, but I honestly haven’t found any one thing that can replace a disciplined lifestyle that includes: a nutrient-rich diet, plenty of water and daily exercise, good sleep, consistent learning, healthy relationships, and most importantly, love!
